John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced this week that Stamford resident Wayne Margarum has pleaded guilty to two counts of willful failure to file an income tax return after failing to do so for his business dating back to 2004.

According to court documents and statements made in court, for more than 40 years, Margarum has owned and operated Margarum Refuse, which provides garbage removal services. The business services approximately 600 to 700 clients with fees ranging from $25 to $60 per month.

Margarum pleaded guilty to not filing tax returns for himself or the business for 14 years.

As part of the guilty plea, Margarum has agreed to pay $356,330 in restitution to the United States Treasury, and will cooperate with the IRS to pay any outstanding taxes, interest and penalties. Margarum - who remains released on bond - is due to be sentenced on Sept. 19, when he will face up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $700,000.
